JACKSONVILLE, Fla. – The Spring ASUN Championship season is here, and Jacksonville Track and Field took its talent to North Florida for the three-day Outdoor Championship.
Alana Lecointe got JU started, scoring a personal best in the hammer throw with a mark of 51.29m, good for a sixth-place finish. Lecointe was not the only personal best for JU. In fact, day one was a day full of personal bests and historic JU marks.
All four members of the team to run in the 200m dash qualified for the final; Alexis Williams ran a personal best and put herself fourth all-time at JU with a time of 23.48, followed by Chidinma Ogba and a time of 23.61, which is another personal best and good for sixth all-time at JU. They will be joined by Cassie Thompson and Alliann Johnson in the finals of the 200m on Saturday.
Freshman, Madison Jones made her 10k debut and shined in the night lights of Hodges Stadium. Making incredible strides early in her career, Jones' debut placed her second all-time in JU history with her time of 36:34.32, which finished fifth in the event.
The stage is set for day two, which will feature finals in the shot put, long jump, high jump, and 3K steeplechase. JU will also feature preliminary events in the 400m, 100m, and 800m events.
