Women’s Lacrosse Set for ASUN Championship Match Against Liberty

JACKSONVILLE, FLA. – Following their Semifinal win over Coastal Carolina, Jacksonville Women's Lacrosse now prepares to face Liberty in the 2022 ASUN Championship on Saturday afternoon.

In the match against Coastal Carolina, JU was in control from start to finish winning the match by 13 points when it was all set and done (20-7). Jenny Kinsey and Sarah Elms were excellent in the game, with both players recording five points apiece. Kinsey also managed to break the Jacksonville record for career points in the match, while Elms reached 200 career goals with her fifth of the day.

Now the 'Phins look to face a Liberty team who they are fairly familiar with having just faced them less than two weeks ago. In the match on Saturday, April 23, JU fell behind to an early deficit after the first quarter, before going on a tear in the final three quarters to beat the Flames by a lopsided score of 20-7.

WHO

Liberty enters the match following their own commanding Semifinal victory over Kennesaw State in which the Flames won by a score of 21-6. In the match, the Flames completely shut down the ASUN Player of the Year in Siena Gore holding her to just three points which all came late in the game. Liberty saw most of their offense in the game from Brooke Bryan, Cami Merkel, and Jordan Baerga who scored five, four and four goals respectively.

This now marks the third year in a row that Liberty and Jacksonville will face each other in the ASUN Championship with the 'Phins taking both previous games by a combined score of 33-26. In last year's Championship match, JU won by a score of 13-8 with Sarah Elms exploding for six goals in the game to lead the 'Phins to their seventh ASUN title all time.
