ATLANTA – Five Jacksonville Men's Soccer players were recognized on the Atlantic Sun's annual list of postseason awards. Three players landed on all conference's second team, one on the All-Freshman team and one on the All-Academic team.
Olivier Correa, Carson Wood, and Mason Duval were all Second Team All-ASUN, Iver Skorve was named to the All-Freshman team, and Jacksonville native Cole Reasonover represents JU as an All-Academic athlete.
"Obviously, it's a team sport," said Head Coach Ali Simmons. "It's always interesting to hear which of our players catch the other coach's eye. Not surprisingly, our front three—Duval, Correa, and Wood—were recognized with All-Conference awards. They have created some special attacking moments, but, most importantly for the team, they work extremely hard defensively to make us difficult to break down."
Correa, despite his mid-season injury that resulted in missing four games, played in 12 matches for the Dolphins and started in all 12 appearances. The redshirt-junior made his second appearance of his career at JU as an All-Conference selection, with his first being an All-Freshman team and First Team All ASUN selection in spring of 2021. Correa was the second-leading scorer for the Dolphins this season with five goals, second on the team in shots, and third in shots on goal. Correa is a natural born leader and captain for the Dolphins and impacted Jacksonville offense heavily.
Joining Correa on the second team is forward Carson Wood. The London, Ontario Canada native has been a firecracker for the Dolphins offensively. He led the team with six goals which was sixth-most in the ASUN. As the Dolphins regular season concluded, Wood turned the heads of the conference and was awarded ASUN Player of The Week after scoring his second brace of the season. The glory didn't stop there as the NCAA awarded Wood with Player of The Week recognition as well. Wood ranks fifth in the conference for shots on goal and 10th In total points. The junior also finished second for the Dolphins in assists while competing in all 16 matches, starting in 15, for JU.
JU's last Second Team All- ASUN selection Mason Duval quickly became a staple name around the Jacksonville campus. Duval, the graduate transfer from Elon, made his presence felt immediately as he helped lead his team to multiple conference wins. Duval finished third for JU in goals with three, third in assists, while also leading the team in total shots and shots on goal. The Cayman Islands native also took third place in the ASUN for shots on goal.
Iver Skorve now carries the torch as he earned selection for ASUN'S All-Freshman Team.
"Pleased to see Iver recognized for the All-Freshman team," said Simmons. "He has a lovely left foot and has been professional on and off the field since the day he stepped on campus. Excited to see him continue to grow."
Skorve is the first freshman to earn the award since Cao Chaves and Correa in Spring 2021. The 6-foot-2 freshman led the Dolphin offense with three assists on the season, two of which came in one game against Florida Atlantic. Skorve's two assists tie for the highest number of assists in one match in the ASUN.
Cole Reasonover, the Duval native, was voted to the 2023 All-Academic team.
"Delighted to see Mr. Jacksonville himself, Cole, make the All-Academic team," said Simmons. "He does not cut corners and gives everything to the team on and off the field. Excited to see him do great things in the future."
Reasonover played in all 16 matches for the Dolphins while starting in 13. The defender found the back of the net in a 1-0 victory against Georgia Southern on September 12. Reasonover was the only defender to have a game winning goal for the Dolphins this season.
Five Dolphins is the most players recognized by the ASUN since the Spring 2021 season. The team opens the ASUN Men's Soccer Championship Saturday against Stetson in Louisville, Kentucky. Kickoff is scheduled for 6 p.m.
