DAYTONA BEACH, Fla. – Speedweeks is in full swing in Daytona Beach, and Jacksonville University cross country was able to get in on the action, competing at the Embry-Riddle First Chance/Lance Chance Invitational on Saturday morning in the shadow of Daytona International Speedway.
The Dolphins competed in three events over the course of the morning, the men's 5K and mile races and the women's mile.
Thomas Hellenbrand was JU's top finisher in the 5K, posting a time of 15:32.88 to place sixth overall.
Riley Maher and
Owen Skelton also placed in the top-15.
In the women's mile,
Emily Haney led the way for JU, coming home with a top-five finish. Her time of 5:56.07 was good enough for fifth.
Emma DeRosa joined her in the top-10.
The day ended with the men's mile race, and
Victor Farfan delivered with a win for the Dolphins. His time of 4:32.88 took him across the line first, and his teammate
Donald Dempsey III was not far behind, coming in fourth.
