CHERRY HILL, N.J. — The Jacksonville Dolphins men's rowing team put up a strong showing at the 84th annual Dad Vail Regatta in Cherry Hill, New Jersey, with their JV Eight emerging victorious in their petite final with a time of 6:09.154.
""I think overall the team performed well today. What I'm most impressed with is how we continue to face and overcome adversity," said head coach
Preston Weinard. "The talk of the regatta today was how our Second Varsity Eight had to hop on a spare boat from the boat house and they ended up in the petite final and won said final. They rallied and were able to have a redemption moment with a bunch of shutouts from officials and others around the regatta that was special."
The weather on Friday was hot with Saturday's conditions being a humid climate with drizzling rain which created a great day of racing for all boats on the water.
The team's first varsity eight finished sixth in the Men's varsity eight grand final with a time of 6:03.355. Although they couldn't clinch a podium finish, they showed immense determination and gave a tough fight to their opponents.
However, the team's JV four came extremely close to winning it all, as they secured the second spot, just behind Temple, in their grand final with a time of 6:52.067. This was a fantastic achievement, and the team was ecstatic with their performance.
Moreover, the pairs without Coxains also gave a solid performance, as they secured sixth place in their grand final with a time of 7:47.325.
With their impressive showing at the Dad Vail Regatta, the Jacksonville Dolphins men's rowing team has set their sights on their next event in Fairfax Station, Virginia, at the AARC Round-Robin. The team is determined to build on their momentum and carry forward their form in their upcoming event.
"Our pair making it to the final was awesome and duking it out until the end with Fairfield was amazing," continued Weinard. "The four's battle today was awesome; the Varsity Eight's battle was awesome. I think they were a bit disappointed with how their outcome was but overall I'm satisfied with the way things went today."
The AARC Round-Robin, which takes place tomorrow, May 14th, will provide the team with what is their final challenge of the regular season, and the Jacksonville Dolphins men's rowing team eagerly looks forward to it.
