Hettinger Claims All-American Honors

SPARKS, Md. -  Troy Hettinger was named to three All-American honorable mention lists, including USA Lacrosse Magazine, Inside Lacrosse and the USILA All-American lists, the organizations announced.
 
Hettinger was recently named ASUN's Defensive Player of the Year, and the fifth year has been one of the most consistent defensemen in the country this season. Oftentimes, locking down some of the most dangerous attackmen in lacrosse. The Ellicott City, Maryland, native shut down Duke's Brennan O'Neill and Andrew McAdorey, as Hettinger only allowed one point between the two of them. The grad student also scooped up four ground balls in the contest against the Blue Devils and caused one turnover.
 
Hettinger in the season had the most ground balls on the team by a defender and caused the second most turnovers. The two-time team captain also found net twice during the season – once against UMass Lowell and once against conference foe Mercer.
 
Hettinger, who's played in 67 games and made 33 starts in his career in the Green and White, is a two-time All-Conference First-Team member (once SoCon and once ASUN) and now a two-time All-American. He was also named to the Tewaaraton Award Watch List at the midpoint of the season.

Recently, the fifth year Dolphin was drafted 12th overall by the Chrome Lacrosse Club in the Premier Lacrosse League, marking the highest selection in program history by a player to the PLL.
