Dolphins Earn 12 Medals on Final Day of ASUN Indoor Championships

GAINESVILLE, Fla. - The Jacksonville University women's track and field team left their Dolphin print all over day two of the Atlantic Sun Conference Championships. Following Alana Lecointe's third-place finish on day one, the Dolphins secured 12 medals (7 gold, two silver, and three bronze) on the final day of the Atlantic Sun Conference Indoor Track and Field Championships on Saturday at the Alachua Sports Center. 

After the two-day meet, the women secured a notable 3rd place finish as Cassie Thompson clinched the ASUN Women's Most Valuable Performer award and emerged as a high scorer for the Dolphins. Thompson, the 2024 conference champion in her respective races, secured gold medals in the 60m dash and the 200m dash, clocking times of 7.45 and 23.78 respectively, finishing first in both events. 

Cassidra Thompson also seized a gold medal in the 400m, crossing the finish line first (54.60), while setting a new personal best securing the runner-up All-conference spot in the 200m (24.48). Mariandree Chacon secured fourth place, while Joanna Rogers locked in eighth, both contributing points for the Dolphins, totaling 24 points for JU in the 200m.

Joanna Rogers also achieved a new personal record in the 400m, finishing third overall in the conference with a time of 55.27. 

All-American Kristi Perez De Gracia Snyman replicated her Conference Championship victory, securing first place with a height of 1.77m and clinching a gold medal. Snyman and Drea Thompson contributed 14 points to the Dolphin's total. 

Freshman Ma'kala Davis emerged as a conference champion after securing a gold medal in the triple jump with a distance of 12.57m. 

Alyssia Richard claimed first place in shot put, marking 14.64m, earning the conference championship title, and securing a gold medal. Alana Lecointe, finishing runner-up All-conference, secured a medal with 14.07m. 

The Dolphins finished out the indoor championship with the 4x4 relay. Cassidra Thompson, Rogers, Chacon, and Cassie Thompson ran a season best of 3:44.25.  

Madeline Weiler achieved a new personal best in the mile, recording a time of 5:25. 

Mya Bodrato set a personal record in the 5k and narrowly missed contributing to the JU point tally.

Joy Whittington had a personal best in 60m hurdles finishing third with a time of 8.80 and earning the Dolphins six points.

COACHES COMMENTS 
"Today, we had great performances", said Head Coach Bambi Brundage. "We exceeded expectations by winning 7 out of 11 events. I am so proud of this team. The support that was shown for each other is what days and championships like this are all about."

UP NEXT
The Dolphins' indoor season ended, and they will prepare for the outdoor season starting in March.
