GULF SHORES, Ala. — After a delay to their first round, the Jacksonville University women's golf team completed their first round at the Bama Beach Bash, grabbing a tenth place spot.
Casey Powell leads the Dolphins and sits in a tie for tenth, highlighted by an eagle on the 14th hole while carding two birdies. Powell was solid in the front nine, finding a few bogeys in the back-nine but solidified herself into the the top-10 with her eagle amidst a tough stretch.
Fernanda Lacaz sits in a tie for 25th, good enough for second on the team at three-over-par. Lacaz carded two birdies in the round, one on the seventh hole and the other on the ninth.
One stroke behind Lacaz and sitting in a tie for 31st is
Issy Hopkins. Hopkins added two birdies of her own to the round, anchoring JU in third for the team.
Both Lacaz and Hopkins have opportunities to move up quickly in the second round with Hopkins four strokes off the top four on the leaderboard and Lacaz just three away.
Rounding out the scoring lineup for Jacksonville is
Maria Eir Gudjonsdottir who sits at ten-over-par and in a tie for 75th.
Sam Houston leads the tournament overall while JU will be paired with North Alabama, Tarleton State and Drake with the grouping set to tee off at 8:30 a.m.
