HUNTSVILLE, Ala. — After 18 holes at the Huntsville.org Collegiate, the Jacksonville University women's golf team sits in a tie for seventh with host school Samford, shooting a total team score of 300 (+12). 

Casey Powell leads the Dolphins, holding a top-ten spot on the leaderboard after an even-par day. Powell's round was highlighted by an eagle on the ninth hole, adding three birdies in the round, with two coming on the back nine, helping put her in sole possession of ninth place.

Fernanda Lacaz follows Powell on the day, shooting three-over-par to earn a spot in a tie for 15th, giving JU two golfers in the top 15 on the leaderboard. A pair of birdies on the 15th and 18th holes helped boost Lacaz on the leaderboard late in the first round.

After a four-over round, Ivete Rodrigues is one stroke behind Lacaz, sitting in 23rd. Rodrigues was consistent for most of the day, facing a couple of setbacks on the final three holes of the round despite still earning a place near the top of the leaderboard.

Rounding out the JU scoring lineup is Issy Hopkins, who struggled on the tail end of the front nine but found a rhythm on the final nine holes of the day, stringing together six straight pars to start the back nine, picking up a birdie on the 17th hole to answer her lone bogey in the final nine holes.

The Dolphins will begin the day on the first hole at the Highlands Course at RTJ Hampton Cove at 8:00 a.m., grouped with North Alabama, Belmont and Samford. Lipscomb leads the event with Lauren Thompson holding the top spot on the individual leaderboard.
