HUNTSVILLE, Ala. — A productive day under rough weather conditions sent the Jacksonville University women's golf team into third place following the second round action at the Huntsville.org Intercollegiate hosted by Samford at RTJ Hampton Cove.

A march up the leaderboard by Maria Eir Gudjonsdottir was the catalyst on the day for Jacksonville as the freshman bounced back from a tough first round to move up 43 spots, shooting one-under-par to become one of just two players in the field to earn under-par on the day. Maria used three birdies on the front nine to get rolling, willing herself and her team on the climb up the leaderboard.

Leading the Dolphins in the tournament is Casey Powell, sitting in a tie for 13th place after battling through the tough conditions on the day. Powell carded a seven-over-par scorecard, but held on to a top-15 spot after an even par day in the first round, facing similar setbacks as the rest of the field in the second round.

Next for the Dolphins is Issy Hopkins who braved the weather, shooting a four-over-par 76, finishing one stroke better in the second round than in her first round and moving up 14 spots on the leaderboard to earn a spot in 19th place.

Fernanda Lacaz rounds out the scoring lineup for JU, becoming the fourth Dolphin to earn a spot in the top-30 after dropping a few spots after an eight-over-par second round. Lacaz had relatively few setbacks on the day but couldn't find a birdie on the day, carding 12 pars.

The Dolphins will tee off at 9:45 a.m. tomorrow for the third and final round, grouped with tournament leader Lipscomb, second place Austin Peay and tournament host Sanford on the final day.
