Track and Field Finish East Coast Relays

JACKSONVILLE, Fla. - The Jacksonville women's track and field team wrapped up the East Coast Relays on Saturday with impressive results across various events. Several athletes achieved personal bests during the two-day meet, with standout performances by many Dolphins.

Friday's action began with Alyssia Richard, the ASUN Conference's top-ranked athlete in discus and shot-put, taking third in the shot put, with Jacksonville native Alana Lecointe not far behind in sixth place.

Shortly afterward, ASUN indoor long jump champion Ma'kala Davis soared to a personal record with a 6.02m leap, securing a spot in the top ten. Julia Sue-Kam-Ling, another Dolphin, finished 15th in the same event. Meanwhile, in the hammer throw, Alyssia Richard set a new personal best with a 46.18m toss, and Alana Lecointe was just a meter short of her own record.

The 200m sprint featured a fast-paced performance from Cassie Thompson, the ASUN 60m indoor champion and top-ranked athlete, who finished sixth among 100 competitors. She came within fractions of a second of her personal record. Mariandree Chacon also delivered a strong showing, nearly matching her personal best, while Cassidra Thompson clocked in with a new personal best, beating her previous time by 0.2 seconds.

Madeline Weiler made her mark in the 1500m, finishing in the top half of the field. To close out Friday's events, junior Mya Bodrato ran a personal best in the 5000m, clocking 17:14.37 to secure a seventh-place finish.

On Saturday, Alyssia Richard took on the discus event, placing fifth among 21 competitors, just under a meter shy of her personal best. Alana Lecointe followed closely, taking ninth. Ma'kala Davis, the Dolphins' standout freshman, led Jacksonville in the triple jump with a fifth-place finish.

In the 400m, Cassie Thompson led the Dolphins with a 14th-place finish out of 52 runners, while Mckayla Francis set a new personal best with a 56.25 mark. Thompson also excelled in the 100m, coming in 17th among 80 sprinters.

The Dolphins competed against international talent from Germany, France, and Hungary, placing 9th of 17 teams in the 4x100m relay.

Finally, Joy Whittington wrapped up the meet with a strong performance in the 100m hurdles, finishing 23rd among 56 competitors, placing her in the top half of the field.
