Dolphins Strike Late to Shut Out Georgia State, 2-0

JACKSONVILLE, Fla. — The Jacksonville University men's soccer team recorded a decisive 2-0 victory over Georgia State on Tuesday at Southern Oak Stadium, securing the win with two late goals in the final seven minutes of the match.

Matias Tobon provided the breakthrough in the 84th minute, finding the back of the net off an assist from Logan Hall to give the Dolphins a 1-0 lead.

Jacksonville added an insurance goal just before the final whistle when Juan Pablo Gonzalez scored in the 90th minute, sealing the 2-0 shutout.

The Dolphins' defense and goalkeeping were outstanding throughout the contest. Goalkeeper Christian Sekanina earned the clean sheet, recording five saves against 13 total Georgia State shots. Jacksonville's late offensive surge included 10 shots in the second half, compared to only four in the first period, allowing the team to control the momentum late in the game.

Georgia State goalkeeper Loan Marin made eight saves in a busy evening for the Panthers.

With the victory, Jacksonville improves its overall record to 3-6-3. The Dolphins will look to continue their winning streak in their next conference matchup.
