Pair Of Goals Lifts Jacksonville Past Stetson

JACKSONVILLE, Fla. – Jacksonville completed the season sweep over Stetson Thursday, defeating the Hatters 2-0 on a rainy night at Southern Oak Stadium.

JU (8-4-1, 5-1-0) defeated the Hatters this past Sunday and put up another solid outing against their cross-state foes in the rematch between the squads.

Scoring her first goal of the year, Paula Herranz netted the game's opening goal in the 18th minute off an assist from Madelyn Radtke. In the 40th minute, JU scored the game's final goal off a long, looping shot from Alicia Rey Perez, assisted by Herranz.

Herranz had her overall biggest night as a Dolphin with her first goal and her second assist of the season. She also led her team in shots, three, for the first time this year. Her five total shots were also a season and team high.

Rey Perez, as she has been keen to do all year, was right behind Herranz with four shots. Her 10 goals are tops on the team and are second among ASUN competition. Manuela Restrepo added a pair of shots in part of a 14-shot night by the 'Phins.

Jacksonville's 19 conference goals are second in the league, just one goal behind Lipscomb.

Between the pipes, Pia Bozic went the distance with four saves made, completing her third clean sheet in ASUN play. In conference, JU's seven goals allowed this year is fifth overall. Bozic herself is fourth overall in goals allowed.

This season, JU has already eclipsed its ASUN win total from last season (three). The team has also won its most conference games (five) since winning six total in 2013, with four games still left to play this season. History bodes well for the Dolphins as in '13 the program made it to the first round of the NCAA Tournament.

Head coach Ryan Moon is just the second coach in school history to make a two-plus conference win difference in his second season leading the 'Phins. In 1998 Mike Johnson won three conference games and won seven his second year.

The Dolphins get another crack at Florida Gulf Coast on Sunday at 1 p.m., looking to get revenge on the Eagles who handed JU its only loss thus far in ASUN play. The following Sunday, JU hosts UNF for the second edition of the River City Rumble after defeating the Ospreys at their place 2-1.

COACH'S COMMENTS
"Right now the team is being really resilient in a tough stage of the season," Moon said. "Games come thick and fast now all while dealing with midterms and other outside factors. They have stayed focused, they train well and their consistency and habits are there. We still want to build on our performances and grow, but happy to be picking up results at this stage of the year."
