DAYTONA BEACH, Fla. --- The Jacksonville women's rowing program closed its fall competition series with a successful showing at the Florida Fall Invite. The Dolphins picked up multiple first place finishes against their in-state rivals.
In the championship 5K race to open the event, three Jacksonville eights finished in the top four. JU's A crew took first place by more than 20 seconds with a time of 17:19.255. Following behind was Jacksonville's B Crew in 17:40.998.Â
The Dolphin's C boat took fourth place and D crew took eighth. In the Varsity and Novice 4+ 5K, Jacksonville took second place behind Embry-Riddle.
Moving to the 1K races, JU's A, B and C crews all won their respective heats. Jacksonville's A team was the only crew to finish the race in under four minutes, posting an event-best time of 03:58.884. The Dolphins D boat placed second, under six seconds behind the A crew from Florida Tech, the closest margin of any 1K heat all day. JU's novice 4+ crew took home hardware, placing first in the 1K sprint. JU's varsity 4+ placed second in its heat.
With the end of the fall season, Jacksonville now turns its eyes to the official competition season in the spring. The Dolphins will look to claim their seventh MAAC crown in the last 10 years and return to the NCAA National Championships.
