KANSAS CITY, Mo. – Two Jacksonville University women's soccer standouts have been named to the United Soccer Coaches All-South Region, the organization announced.
Senior forward
Alicia Rey Perez was honored by being named to the Second Team, while junior defender
Paula Herranz was named to the Third Team. The pair formed part of the core that took Jacksonville to the #2 seed in the ASUN and to a trip to the ASUN Tournament Quarterfinals.
After transferring in from Keiser University, Rey Perez made her lone year in green count. She found herself on the All-ASUN First Team after the season, leading JU in goals (13), total points (29), shots (54) and shots on goal (27). She planted herself fifth all-time in the JU record books for goals scored in a single season.
In the classroom, she was also a 4.0 student who was named to the ASUN All-Academic Team.
As for Herranz, a transfer from EKU, she helped anchor one of the ASUN's premier defenses. Her skills not only on defense but as a valuable player through the midfield helped her end up on the All-ASUN Second Team. Herranz started all 19 games and scored a goal with two assists. She played the fourth most minutes of any Dolphin.
The pair make up the first All-Region honorees for Jacksonville University women's soccer since 2016 and are the 12
th and 13
th honorees respectively. Rey Perez is the fifth Dolphin all-time to be named to the Second Team and Herranz is the seventh to be named to the Third Team.
The ASUN at large was well represented in the South Region honoree list, as 10 ASUN student-athletes outside of the pair from Jacksonville were named to the First, Second and Third teams respectively. The full list can be viewed
