The Jacksonville University men's cross country team kicked off their spring season with a solid opener, with notable performances from several athletes.
Thomas Hellenbrand led the way in the 5k, earning a personal best while winning his heat in wire-to-wire fashion. It was a strong showing to start the season, setting a positive tone for the team's spring campaign.
Jack Bolan also made an impact, competing in the 800-meter and 5k events. His consistency throughout the meet reflects his readiness as the team prepares for the season ahead.
In the mile, both Zachary Earley and Geovanni Calderon showed their potential, putting up competitive times as the team continues to build strength throughout the spring.
Head Coach Jordan Garman emphasized the importance of trusting the training and staying consistent. "Even though spring is not our main season, it is still very important to run our fastest at the end of the spring semester," said Garman. "Knocking the rust off today will help us be at our best in May."
As the team moves forward, the focus will be on maintaining momentum and refining their performances to be at their peak when it matters most later in the season. The Dolphins will look to build on their strong performances as they head into the River City Relays, set for March 7-8 at Hodges Stadium in Jacksonville, Fla.
