Box Score DAYTONA BEACH, Fla. – The Jacksonville Dolphins' basketball season came to an end in the College Basketball Invitational presented by Purple Quarterfinals to the University of the Incarnate Word, 87-71.
JU finished with a 19-14 overall record and made its first postseason appearance under fourth-year head coach
Jordan Mincy.
After a bye to begin the tournament, the Dolphins faced off against the Cardinals who were coming off a win over Manhattan the day prior.
UIW jumped out to an early lead and the Dolphins were never able to recover. Despite trailing,
Kendall Munson never stopped scoring in his final game in a Jacksonville uniform.
Munson led the team with 19 points on 8-10 shooting. The forward also grabbed a team-best eight rebounds.
Coming off the bench,
Stephon Payne III scored 11 points and pulled down six boards. In the battle of the boards, Jacksonville won against the Cardinals 38-29.
Also playing in his final game,
Jakari Spence recorded a career-high 10 assists to lead the game. Spence had hit the nine-assist mark twice the season, both in conference play, but finally broke into double-digits in his last collegiate game.
Spence's 10 assists and 14 points gave the graduate guard his first career double-double.
Robert McCray V was second on the team in dishes with three, but fouls hampered the high-powered scorer for most of the contest. McCray fouled out with three points scored and three rebounds taken in.
Freshman guard
Chris Arias added nine in almost 29 minutes played off the bench.
Despite the loss, Jacksonville made its first postseason appearance since 2017 and recorded its second most wins under Mincy. The 'Phins reached the ASUN Semifinals this season and finished as the No. 4 seeded team in the conference.
