ORLANDO, Fla. – Following a sprinters-based meet at Florida last weekend, the Jacksonville track and field program took to UCF to showcase their long-distance runners.
The long-distance runners excelled, with
Gabby Huxtable leading the day on Friday with an 11
th place showing in the 3000-meter run. Huxtable finished with a time of 10:45.77.
On Saturday is when the distance team really shined, with a full podium sweep in the 1500-meter run led by
Madeline Weiler in first with a time of 4:50.53. Right behind Weiler was
Jordan Dix with a time of 4:53.51. In third,
Lana Grelli finished with a time of 4.54.82.
"Our distance group had an outstanding meet," head coach
Bambi Brundage said. "They're firing on all cylinders and the timing couldn't be better as we head into the conference championship in a few weeks."
The previous weekend at the Tom Jones Invitational at Florida, sprinters
Mariandree Chacon,
Cassie Thompson and
Joanna Rogers ran for the 'Phins.
Chacon took home 25
th overall in the loaded 200-meter field with a time of 24.38. In the 200-meter invitational run, Thompson earned 11
th place with a time of 23.41.
In the 100, Chacon earned 23
rd place with an 11.98 time. Thompson earned 27
th in the 100 invite. As for Rogers, she ran a 55.51 in the 400 meter, good for 21
st place.
Next up for the program is a two-day stint at UNF for the UNF East Coast Relays before ASUN Championship competition begins on May 15.
