JACKSONVILLE, Fla. --- The Jacksonville track and field competed in its final regular season meet of the season at the UNF East Coast Relays Friday and Saturday.
"We had a strong showing this weekend across the board. Our distance group looked solid, and the sprinters stepped up with some great performances," JU Director of Track and Field Bambi Brundage said. "This weekend was a perfect tune-up as we gear up for the Conference Championship in two weeks."
The Dolphins opened the action with the long jump and they opened with authority.
Julia Sue-Kam-Ling took home first place, finishing with a 5.97 meter jump --- .02 meters more than anybody else in the field.Â
"Julia had a standout moment in the long jump, hitting a season best," Brundage said. "She always finds a way to deliver when it counts, and it's great to see her back in top form."
Kailyn Murphy and
Sanaa Geter also competed, with Geter placing 10th with a 5.59 meter jump.
The track events started with the 200 meter.
Cassie Thompson placed in the top 10, 23.81 second finish.
Mariandree Chacon also raced for Jacksonville, placing 17th.
In the first distance event of the meet, four runners participated in the 1500 meter:
Annah Priyadi,
Emily Haney,
Lexi Schwartz and
Eryn Field. Priyadi led all Dolphins with a 41st place finish in 5:00.40.
Madeline Weiler turned in another Jacksonville top ten, placing eighth in the 3000 meter steeplechase with a time of 11:38.69. Friday's final event featured five Dolphins in the 5000 meter: Emma DeRosa, Alexis Holmes, Gabby Huxtable, Jordan Dix and Lana Grelli.
Grelli led all JU runners, finishing 30th with a 18:34.23 finish.Â
The Dolphins opened Saturday back in the field, with
Sela Gur-Arie placing 25th in the triple jump. Back on the track, Chacon and Sue-Kam-Ling raced in the 100 meter prelims, finishing 22nd and 42nd respectively.Â
In the 800 meter, Priyadi, Haney, Schwartz and Field laced it up again, with Priyadi leading JU with a 57th place finish.
Joanna Rogers and
Kemaj Moore raced in the 400 meter for the Dolphins, both placing in the top 20. Moore finished in eighth place, and Moore came in 16th.
Jacksonville closed the weekend in the 4x400 relay, and the Dolphins nearly ended the meet with another trophy to their name. The team of Moore, Rogers, Chacon and Thompson finished in 3:41.79, less than two seconds shy of first place and nearly three seconds better than third place.
"It was especially exciting to see the 4x4 run their first full relay of the season—they're rounding into shape at the right time," Brundage said.
