Sue-Kam-Ling Competes at NCAA National Championships

EUGENE, Ore. --- Jacksonville long jumper Julia Sue-Kam-Ling became the first Dolphin jumper to compete at the NCAA Outdoor Track and Field Championships since 2007 Thursday. The junior finished in 21st place, capping off a historic postseason run.

Sue-Kam-Ling got off the blocks with a 5.85 meter jump in her first attempt. After a fault on her second jump, she closed out the night with a 5.92 meter attempt to lock in her finish.

The event was won by Louisville's Synclair Savage with a jump of 6.72 meters.

Sue-Kam-Ling earned her place in Eugene with a memorable finish at the regional championships. She finished her event at the regionals with a 6.15 meter jump --- her second-best of the season --- to earn a Top 12 finish and book her flight to Oregon.

Before earning a place in NCAA Regionals, Sue-Kam-Ling took home the gold medal in the Atlantic Sun Championships. She jumped a season-best 6.2 meters to finish best in the league and start her historic run through to the NCAA Finals.

Sue-Kam-Ling was the first JU long jumper to compete at the National Championships since Natasha Harvey in 2007. She was also the only long jumper from the Atlantic Sun conference to compete in Oregon.
