ATLANTA, Ga. – Jacksonville University men's soccer fell 1-0 to Georgia State on Tuesday evening at the GSU Soccer Complex.
The Dolphins (4-4-2) generated eight of their nine shots after halftime, but a 42nd-minute goal proved the difference in the nonconference matchup.
Both teams remained scoreless through the opening 40 minutes.
Simen Havig denied Leo Jaukovic in the 34th minute before Georgia State broke through at the 41:04 mark. David Blanton finished off an assist from George Wynne to give the Panthers a 1-0 advantage heading into the break.
Jacksonville increased its attacking pressure in the second half, outshooting Georgia State 8-7 over the final 45 minutes.
Quinten Koster and
Matias Tobon each sent attempts wide of the frame early in the half before the Dolphins tested Panthers goalkeeper Finn Marchisen three times in a four-minute stretch.
Mathias Mjaavatn put a shot on target in the 69th minute, followed by newly added
Jake Waters less than a minute later. Tobon added another attempt on goal in the 73rd minute, but Marchisen turned away all three to preserve Georgia State's lead.
The Dolphins continued to search for the equalizer, with Waters firing over the crossbar in the 81st minute and
Alejandro Carrillo sending a shot wide following a Jacksonville corner in the 82nd. Georgia State held on through the closing minutes to secure the result.
Tobon led Jacksonville with three shots, while Waters added two. Both recorded a shot on goal along with Mjaavatn. Havig finished with one save in 90 minutes.
Jacksonville held a 3-2 advantage in shots on goal, while both teams earned two corner kicks.
