ORLANDO, Fla. – After being named the ASUN Indoor Field Athlete of the year, sophomore jumper
Ma'Kala Davis has continued her success into the outdoor season.
At the Knight Invite On March 27-28 at UCF, Davis earned first place in the triple jump with a leap of 12.78m. After garnering first place, she then took home third overall in the long jump with a final distance of 5.99m. She finished as the top Dolphin in both events.
In the 1500, long distance runner
Alexis Holmes secured first overall with a 4:53.74 time. She finished just ahead of teammate
Josephine Leonard's fourth place time of 4:58.76. Holmes' first place finish was the highest finish all season, indoor or outdoor, by a JU long distance runner.
Jacksonville's 4x100 relay team finished fifth overall with the squad of
Julia Sue-Kam-Ling,
Mariandree Chacon,
McKayla Francis and
Kemaj Moore posting a time of 45.49. The Dolphin 4x100 team was the highest placing ASUN squad in the competition.
Individually, Chacon took home ninth in the 100m dash (11.49) while Moore secured ninth in the 400 (54.83). Sue-Kam-Ling took home 11
th in the long jump (5.65) with Chacon earning 11
th as well in the 200m (23.69), finishing first among JU athletes in a field of 74 finishers.
The men's long distance runners also competed in central Florida, led by a second place showing by
Zachary Earley in the 1500. Earley paced out a time of 4:07.34, followed by a seventh-place finish by
Zander Kochen (4:16.04) and a ninth-place finish by
Gabe Edwards (4:17.01).
Its back to the track this coming weekend, April 3-4, for the Dolphins as they take on the Pepsi Florida Relays at the University of Florida and the Embry-Riddle Classic in Daytona Beach.
