Thurloway Claims Victory at Seminole Intercollegiate, Dolphins Finish Tied for Third

TALLAHASSEE, Fla.
– The Jacksonville University men's golf team wrapped up the Seminole Intercollegiate on Sunday and leading the way was junior Thomas Thurloway who claimed a share of the individual crown with a -2, 70 in the final round to finish eight under par for the tournament.

Thurloway's cumulative total of 208 is not only the lowest of his season but lowest of his career and earned him the first individual crown of his career. After making the turn with back-to-back bogeys and sitting at +2 through 11 holes, Thurloway turned on the afterburners and posted two birdies and an Eagle over the final six holes to secure the victory. His do-or-die birdie on the Par 5, 18th sealed it.

As a team, the Dolphins posted a final round 290 (+2) to close in a tie for third overall with a cumulative score of 854 (-10), tied with No. 41 West Virginia and besting No. 29 Louisville along with nine others.

Eduardo Carrete surged in the final round to finish in a tie for sixth overall. His final round of 70 (-2) was his second trip under par in this event. Michael Sakane closed out his banner weekend with a 74 (+2) to finish in a tie for 22nd and Aaeri Krishnan posted a +4, 76 to finish in a tie for 33rd.

Up next for JU will be a brief break before taking on the ECU Intercollegiate at Brook Valley Country Club in Greenville, N.C. The 54-hole event will begin on Monday, March 4th with 36-holes followed by 18 holes on Tuesday, March 5th.
