Meeks Breaks Shot Put Record on Final Day of Florida Relays

JACKSONVILLE, Fla. – A new school record, an impressive personal best, and eight top-10 finishes highlighted the final day of the Florida Relays and the Embry-Riddle Spikes Classic for the Jacksonville University women's track and field team, Saturday.

"We have lots to be happy about this weekend; we had some high level performances early in the season," stated Director of Track & Field and Cross Country Ron Grigg.

at Florida Relays – Day 3
Sophomore Sade Meeks broke the program's shot put record and placed seventh overall in the event with an impressive toss of 15.11 meters (49 feet, 7 inches). Her throw surpassed Ronnisha Hall's previous mark of 14.97m (49 ft., 1.5 in.) set in 2011.

Both of Jacksonville's relay teams came within half of a second of their respective program records. With redshirt-junior Jacquelyn Baldwin, junior Shalah Smiling, sophomore Savyon Toombs, and freshman Nicole Smith holding down the 4x100m relay, the Dolphins placed 12th overall and were the only Division I mid-major to place in the top 12. JU's time of 44.61 was just 0.27 seconds off the program record (44.34) set back in 2015.

Toombs then teamed up with sophomores Pashen Williams and Amelia Reynolds, and freshman Sadae Davidson, in the 4x400m relay. The foursome took seventh overall in 3:39.95.

at Embry-Riddle Spikes Classic – Day 2
An impressive nine foot-five inch personal best highlighted sophomore Erika Earwood's efforts in the hammer throw as the Douglasville, Ga. native took fifth with a toss of 47.31m (155 ft., 2 in.).

With runner-up finishes in two of the final three events in the heptathlon, senior Emily Myslinski finished second with 4,625 points. The Jacksonville, Fla. native posted runner-up efforts in the long jump with a season-best leap of 5.26 meters (17 feet, 3.25 inches) and the javelin throw (33.40m/109 ft., 7 in.), before she closed out the day in the 800-meter run in 2:34.22 – good for fourth place.

In fifth place heading into the final event, sophomore Lauren Polimeno raced to a runner-up finish in the 800m run (2:24.13) to place third in the heptathlon with 4,218 points. Earlier in the day, she took fifth in the long jump (4.83m/15 ft., 10.25 in.) and sixth in the javelin throw (22.38m/73 ft., 5 in.).

With a pair top-five finishes in the 100-meter hurdles, freshman Elizabeth Crosby (15.20) and sophomore Adreanna Parlette (15.22) placed third and fourth, respectively.

The Dolphins added a pair of top-five finishes in the triple jump as sophomore Adja Sackor (11.96m/39 ft., 3 in.) placed fourth and senior Brittany Bowald (11.83m/38 ft., 9.75 in.) claimed fifth in the event.

The Dolphins return to action on Friday, April 5 as they head across town for the North Florida Invite.
