JACKSONVILLE, Fla. – After missing a season of competition,
Ma'Kala Davis is back on top.
The Atlantic Sun Conference
announced its postseason awards on Tuesday for the Indoor Track and Field season, with Davis being named the Field Athlete of the Year.
Back in 2024, Davis earned gold at the ASUN Indoor Championships with the meet's top triple jump. In 2026 however, she took things even further. Davis started off her indoor campaign with a sixth-place finish in the long jump
at the Jimmy Carnes Invite. From there, Davis rattled off five consecutive first place finishes to end her season and vault her to the top of the conference.
At the Legends of Alachua County Invitational, Davis leaped ahead of the crowd to first place in the both the long jump (5.89m) and triple jump (12.20m). At the
Visit Gainesville Classic, she again earned first in the triple jump with an even further leap of 12.61.
For her efforts in Gainesville, Davis was
named the ASUN Field Performer of the Week.
At the Indoor Championships, Davis continued to elevate by earning gold in both the long jump (5.94) and triple (12.67), with both distances representing season highs for the Orlando native.
At the Championships, Davis became the first Dolphin since herself in 2024 to earn the top triple jump crown. She also became the first 'Phin since all the way back in 2013 to earn the top indoor spot in the long jump, jumping ahead of Charlene Charles' accomplishment from 13 years ago.
While at the Indoor Championships,
Davis helped JU earn a third-place team finish overall.
While Davis' season was a record-setting individual accomplishment, she was certainly not alone this season. Davis was joined by five other Dolphin teammates in being honored by the league Tuesday morning, as the ASUN also announced its All-ASUN Academic Team which can be viewed

The Indoor season may be over now, but the Outdoor season is just on the horizon. Starting March 19, the Dolphins will compete across town at the UNF River City Relays for the first Outdoor meet of the year. Outdoor Championships will be held at UNF May 14-16.
