BIRMINGHAM, Ala. – The Jacksonville University men's golf team wrapped up the Shoal Creek Invitational at Shoal Creek Country Club on Tuesday afternoon and knocked off some impressive opponents en route its ninth-place finish.
The Dolphins battled the elements all weekend and into the event, getting started on Monday afternoon without a practice round after severe weather passed through Birmingham on Sunday. Originally, 36-holes were scheduled for Monday, but tee times had to be pushed back to allow the course time to recover. Ultimately, the team played 36-holes on Tuesday to wrap up the event.
By the end of it all, Jacksonville posted scores of 304-295-293, 892 (+28), and ended up just one stroke shy of tying for seventh overall in a loaded field. The Dolphins did best the No. 22 team in the nation, Tennessee, and in doing so, jumped their ranking to No. 60 and in prime position to head back to the NCAA Tournament should things go well at the ASUN Championship this weekend.
Eduardo Carrete picked up another top 10 finish when he closed in a tie for ninth overall. He posted scores of 73-70-74, 217 (+1) on his way to leading the Dolphins once again. Carrete's teammate
Michael Sakane followed closely behind with a +5, 221 and
Sam Uhland charged up the leaderboard with a final round 74 to close with a +9, 225.
As previously mentioned, the Dolphins will now turn their attention to the ASUN Championship which is set to begin on Sunday, April 22 with round one and continuing on Monday and Tuesday with rounds two and three, respectively. The event will take place at Chateau Elan Legends Course in Braselton, Ga.
