LAKE HARTWELL, S.C. – Jacksonville University women's rowing completed its final tune-up for the MAAC Championship in a scrimmage against Clemson on Monday.
The 1st, 2nd and 3rd Varsity 8+ boats as well as the 1st Varsity 4+ all got the opportunity to hit the water as the Dolphins build towards the conference championship in two weeks.
"We are in the final stretch, and to get the opportunity to race a quality opponent like Clemson is huge for us," said Head Coach
Mike Lane. "Although winning is always our goal, we learned a lot about each boat, how they race and what we need to do to improve!
"We have 13 days to our MAAC Championship and you better believe every minute will be spent preparing to defend our title."
Both teams used the event as an opportunity to get valuable racing experience in late May, and for JU, in a new and unique environment. Coach Lane went into Monday's races emphasizing how important improving speed and fine-tuning lineups was. Also, since it was the second time JU raced against Clemson this season, the comparisons from April until now are a good barometer of how the team will handle the rematch with the fellow MAAC teams on May 19.
