JACKSONVILLE, Fla. – A familiar face is returning to the beach volleyball scene at Jacksonville University as
Dylan Hough – a former volunteer assistant for the Dolphins – has been named as the new assistant coach for the program.
"Thank you to
Alex Ricker-Gilbert,
Whitney Curtis, and
Maggie Couture for believing in me and my vision for the beach volleyball program here at Jacksonville University," Hough said. "JU is like a second home to me, and it feels great to be back on campus with an opportunity to work with a great administration, coaching staff, and terrific student-athletes. I am eager to get to work and excited for the future of beach volleyball here at JU."
Hough served as a volunteer assistant from 2016-2017 and has made several coaching stops since his first stint at JU. Most recently, he served as a head coach on the Association of Volleyball Professionals (AVP) Tour for Dave Palm and his playing partner, where he assisted with scheduling and pre-match warm up. He also served as head coach and director of beach Volleyball at Powers Volleyball Club in Jacksonville, where he coached teams across various levels and managed all aspects of beach volleyball operations. Hough also spent time as a head coach at Jax Beach Volleyball, working alongside former professional Kent Ammons.
From 2012 to 2014 Hough was an assistant coach at Top Select Volleyball Academy in Orlando, where he helped two teams qualify for USAV Nationals and run clinics with former USA National Team coach and current University of Minnesota head coach Hugh McCutcheon and former Ohio State University head coach Geoff Carlston.
In 2014 Hough joined the coaching staff at Lake Nona High School as an assistant coach and helped lead the Lions to a school-record 28 wins and a ranking of fifth in the state of Florida. Hough has also worked as a camp counselor at Florida State University and the University of Florida.
A 2010 graduate of Gulf Coast High School in Naples, Hough has won a national championship as a player at the 2016 USAV Adult Nationals and has trained with Olympians Brooke Sweat, Casey Patterson and Adrian Carambula.
