JACKSONVILLE, Fla. – The Jacksonville University men's golf team wrapped up play at the inaugural Timuquana Collegiate on Tuesday afternoon, closing out in a tie for ninth overall (-2, 862) among perhaps the most loaded field the Dolphins will tee it up against in 2021.
Jacksonville finished tied with Purdue, defeated UCF and was just five strokes back of Notre Dame. Florida and Liberty tied atop the team leaderboard and Gators broke the tie by winning in a playoff.
The Dolphin effort was paced by Michael Sakane (68-69-75, 212) who finished in a tie for 15th overall at -4. Newcomers Joseph Sullivan (E, 216), Alexandre Vandermoten (+5, 221) and Josef Hacker (+5, 221) finished in ties for 29th and 49th, respectively. Eduardo Carrete charged up the leaderboard during his last 18, posting a -1, 71 and finishing in a tie for 41st at +3, 219. Arkesh Bhatia, playing as an individual, also fired a +5, 221 to finish tied with Sullivan and Vandermoten while Brandon Valvano, also playing as an individual finished tied for 60th at +8, 224.
Next up for Jacksonville will be the 2021 edition of the Sea Best Invitational on Monday and Tuesday, Feb. 1-2. The field in that event will be nearly as loaded as this one was. The likes of Campbell, Charlotte, College of Charleston, Duke, FGCU, Florida, Liberty, Lipscomb, McNeese State, N.C. State, Toledo, North Florida and USC Upstate will all visit the First Coast to compete next week.
