Men’s Golf Wraps Up Sea Best Invitational in Jacksonville

JACKSONVILLE, Fla. — The Jacksonville University men's golf team hosted its second tournament in as many weeks, welcoming a nationally competitive field to the Sea Best Invitational at Atlantic Beach Country Club. Jacksonville finished 13th in the team standings after two rounds of play.

The Dolphins faced one of the strongest fields of the spring, highlighted by No. 5 Florida, top-40 Texas A&M, and ASUN opponents North Alabama, North Florida, FGCU, and Lipscomb.

Play began Monday with Will Harris leading Jacksonville after carding a 74 (+3) in the opening round. Harris ended his day with a birdie on 18. Daniel Montalvo followed closely with a 75 (+4), earning three birdies on the front nine, while Tomas Hjaltested posted a 78 (+6). Brandon Lohr matched that total at 78 (+6), scoring a trio of birdies from holes four to seven, and Andrew Morgan rounded out the scoring for the Dolphins with an 80 (+8).

Jacksonville sat in 12th place after the first round heading into Tuesday's final round.

In round two, Morgan led the Dolphins with a 72 (+1), finishing the tournament at +9. The Jacksonville native scored three birdies himself on the front nine. Harris closed with a 74, ending at +6, tying Morgan for the lead amongst the Dolphin contingency with four birdies on the final day of play. Montalvo also posted a 74 to finish at +7. Hjaltested finished the tournament at +9 after a second-round 74.

Harris recorded Jacksonville's top individual finish, placing 46th, while Montalvo finished 50th in the field.

Jacksonville will next see competition on February 14th, when they travel to Gainesville for the Gator Invitational.
