JACKSONVILLE, Fla. – After spending much of the month of March on the road, the Jacksonville University beach volleyball team took to the sand at the Cooper Beach Volleyball Complex Wednesday for a pair of River City Rumble matches with the University of North Florida. The Dolphins (2-12-1) were back to full strength against the Ospreys (13-5), having been playing short-handed in recent weeks, and played close all afternoon, but fell in both matches by scores of 5-0.
JU was downed in straight sets in all five pairs in the first match of the day. The 2s pairs of
Giao Huynh and
Olivia Szyszkiewicz battled hard, as did the 3s pair of
Rina Mitchell and
Kathryn Wristen, but both fell by scores of 21-13, 21-16 and 21-12, 21-15 respectively.
In the second match of the afternoon, Jacksonville was downed in straight sets in all five flights. The 4s pair of
Kaitlyn Sereda and
Makenzie Weathers put on a strong showing in their second action of the day, but fell by scores of 21-14, 21-16. JU's 1s pair of
Morgan Dees and
Shaylee Befus also put up a strong outing in their second match of the afternoon, but were downed 21-17 and 23-21.
The Dolphins will return home to open the month of April, welcoming Coastal Carolina to the Payne Sand Volleyball Courts at Dolphin Beach for a pair of matches on April 7, with start time scheduled for 12 PM.
