DANIEL ISLAND, S.C. – Jacksonville University men's golf has two players in the top-10 with one round to play at the Daniel Island Intercollegiate, with
Joseph Sullivan sitting T5 and
Filip Raza T9 on the leaderboard.
The Dolphins wrapped day two T9 after shaving 13 strokes off of its team score from the first round.
After a steady first round in which he made par on all but three holes on Sunday, Sullivan was more up-and-down on Monday at the Daniel Island Club course. He started the day with bogeys on two of his first three holes, before roaring back with three consecutive birdies, closing his front nine with four total.
From there, he gave back three strokes in his first four holes of the back nine, before evening out with a birdie and four pars to end his round at even par on the day. He is one stroke back of second place heading into the final round.
Raza sits one stroke back of his teammate Sullivan, making two birdies and 12 pars on day one and following that up with three birdies and 11 pars in his second round. He is shooting 1-under on Par-3s to lead the tournament field, and is also 1-over on Par-4s, tied for fifth in the field with Sullivan.
Alexandre Vandermoten sits just inside the top-50 of the deep field after compiling 11 pars on Sunday and closing strong on Monday. He had six pars in his first nine holes, and sank three birdies on the back nine, to go with four additional pars.
Brandon Valvano bounced back on Monday, shooting seven strokes better in his second round. He made three pars and closed the front nine with back-to-back birdies, before making six more pars in his last nine holes of the day.
Jack Neill closed out the second round with 10 pars.
JU is scoring the best in the field on Par-3s in the tournament, tied with two other teams at 3-over. The team's 56 pars are also third-most overall.
Round three start just after 8 a.m. on Tuesday morning.
