SPARTANBURG, S.C. – Jacksonville University men's golf sits fifth after the first round of The Carolina Cup on Sunday.
Alexandre Vandermoten,
Joseph Sullivan and
Filip Raza all shot first-round 70s and are T10 heading into the second round at Carolina Country Club on Monday.
Vandermoten made four birdies and 12 pars, including consecutive red numbers on holes 12 and 13 as part of three birdies on the back nine. He was T2 on Par-5s at 3-under on the day.
Sullivan recorded five birdies, tied for the team best with Raza, making two on the front and three on the back nine, also making two in a row on holes 13 and 14.
Raza also had five birdies, with two coming on his first two holes of the day and two more to end his opening round as part of eight consecutive holes of par or better. He was tied for second in Par-4 scoring, shooting 3-under on such holes.
Brandon Valvano, competing as an individual, is T26 after one round. He made two birdies over the course of three holes and had 13 pars on the day. He and Sullivan were both 1-under on Par-4s and his 13 pars led the team.
Jack Neill and Tomas Hjlasted both shot opening round 77s, with Neill experiencing an up-and-down round featuring four birdies and an eagle and Hjalsted making just one birdie, but carding 12 pars, including five straight to end the round.
The Dolphins were second-best on Par-4s on the day and made the second most birdies, with 19.
