Box Score JACKSONVILLE, FLA.- Jacksonville University volleyball program lost in three sets to FGCU in the final home game of the season Friday night.
SET ONE
It was a back-and-forth affair early in Swisher Gymnasium. A kill from Haley Hart sparked a little energy from the Dolphins. FGCU gained momentum and never looked back. A block from Lyric Love and Myah Robinson gave Jacksonville some energy again to fight back 12-21. Four kills in a row for Julia de Sa put the Dolphins within range 17-22. A service ace from Kariana Ayla-Drew made the score 18-22. A huge kill from Hart gave the Dolphins an opportunity to get within range. The Dolphins put up a good fight, but the Eagles finished set one 25-19.
SET TWO
The two programs traded points; A kill from Lyric Love put Jacksonville within one. The Eagles took advantage of the unforced errors from the Dolphins forcing Jacksonville to take a timeout 5-9. FGCU still held on to the momentum from set one advancing the lead 15-6. FGCU kept their foot on the gas and closed set two 25-12.
SET THREE
The Eagles started off with a 5-0 run early in set three. A block from Hart and Robinson broke the scoring run. A kill from Jenna McNamara gave the Dolphins a little run 4-9. More unforced errors from the Dolphins caused Coach Maggie Johnson to take a timeout 5-12. The Eagles kept the energy on their side extending the lead 19-9. FGCU clinched the third set 25-16.
Haley Hart led the team with 11 kills and Julia de Sa added eight kills. Rebecca Rocassin collected 25 assists and one block. Kariana Ayala-Drew had 17 digs and two service aces.
The Dolphins final game is this Sunday at Steston at 1pm.
