Softball Opens Season with River City Leadoff

JACKSONVILLE, Fla. – The Dolphins open their season by hosting the River City Leadoff this upcoming weekend, Friday, Feb. 11th through Sunday, Feb. 13th. They play five games, welcoming the likes of NC State, Western Carolina, Campbell, and Florida A&M.

This opening weekend will be the first game in a JU uniform for half of the roster, with just ten of the twenty current players returning from the prior year. Such a number brings a great deal of different emotions and questions leading up to that first pitch.

One thing that is for sure, excitement is their greatest emotion. "Everyone is ready to compete against some outside competition, we're very excited to get the season started," stated an optimistic and game-ready Head Coach, Erica Ayers.

With the opening weekend being just the beginning of a 49-game slate this year, expectations can begin to be written off the bat. Coach Ayers wants to ensure that the team knows it is more about what you can control, rather than expecting a specific outcome. "We expect to control the things we're able to and play as hard as we can until the last out is made. Let the chips fall where they fall, evaluate, and adjust. Rinse and repeat."

The Dolphins' chips will begin their descent on Friday, Feb. 11th in their first matchups of the season, hosting NC State at 5PM, followed by Western Carolina at 7:30PM to conclude the first day of doubleheaders.
