Track and Field Head to ASUN Indoor Championship

LYNCHBURG, Va. – The ASUN Indoor Championships are being held this weekend, February 25th and 26th, hosted by Liberty.

JU is coming out of a successful meet in Columbia, S.C. this past Friday led by freshman, Madison Jones placing first in the mile run (5:03.76). Almost every Dolphin that participated in the meet placed in the top ten in their events, providing a hopeful path to a championship victory this upcoming weekend.

The Dolphins have a rich history in the Indoor Championships. Their last time competing was in 2020, where Adja Sackor would set an ASUN record in the triple jump event with 13.16m (43' 2 ¼). Alongside her record-setting victory would be victories for JU across the 60m, 200m, and 4x400.

Their history runs deeper than a couple of years, however. From 2006 to 2016, the Dolphins would be crowned Champions of the ASUN each year, and once more in 2018.

This prior success can provide an encouraging look ahead to the 2022 Indoor Championships. An experienced head coach, Ron Grigg, is seeking the best out of his team as a group and knows it takes an army to win the war, "Conference championship weekend is always exciting. The true team nature of our sport takes center stage and often brings out the best level of competitiveness."

Day one begins on Friday, February 25th.
