Box Score DENTON, TEX. - Jacksonville University volleyball fell three sets to UNLV Saturday afternoon.
The Dolphins (0-3) put up a good fight in the second set, but ultimately could not hold on, and struggled to close the gap in the other two sets.
SET ONE
UNLV started off the set well and stayed ahead of JU by four to five points for much of the early part of it. The Dolphins battled to stay within range, but the Rebels pulled away to close out the game 25-15.
SET TWO
Haley Hart and Lyric Love chipped in kills to help the Dolphins keep pace in a back-and-forth affair early in the set. The Rebels then took a 16-10 lead before the Dolphins could get hot. Late in the game the Dolphins were on a 6-0 scoring run, but it wasn't quite enough to hold off the Rebels. UNLV held on to take set two 25-21.
SET THREE
UNLV opened the set with a 4-0 scoring run leading 5-1 early. The Dolphins came back later in the set with a 4-0 scoring run. Love and Myah Robinson with a big block to get the Dolphins to 18-22. But in the end UNLV took control and came out on top over the Dolphins 25-20.
Hart led the way in kills with 14, while Love adding seven herself. Rebecca Rocassin led both teams with 24 assists. Love had six blocks, and Robinson had four. Hart chipped in two service aces.
The Dolphins are back in action Friday for the Jacksonville Invitational presented by Hampton Regency at 10am and 7pm.
