Three in Top-10, Men's Golf T6 After First Day of Carolina Cup

SPARTANBURG, S.C. – Alexandre Vandermoten shot a first round 70 and is T3 after the first round of The Carolina Cup on Sunday.
 
Jacksonville University men's golf is T6 overall, with two other players also in the top-10 of the leaderboard with two rounds to play at Carolina Country Club.
 
Vandermoten started the day with a birdie on the Par-4 10th, setting the tone for the round. After bogeying his next, he closed his first nine with two more birdies and five pars, making the turn at -2. He parred the first four holes of his second nine, before burying his fourth and final birdie of the day on the Par-4 5th. He bogeyed the next one, but closed the day with three more pars to end the day -2. He was 2-under on Par-4s, tied for the second-best score of the day on such holes.
 
Playing as an individual in his first collegiate tournament, freshman Will Harris shot a 1-under 71 and is T5 overall. It was a steady day for the youngster, who made seven pars on his first nine holes, picking up his first birdie of his career on the Par-5 4th. He gave that stroke back on the Par-4 7th, but that was followed by a stretch of 10 consecutive pars. He closed his day with another birdie on 18 to conclude an outstanding debut, leading the field with his 15 total pars on the day.
 
Josef Hacker turned in a solid day, shooting a 73 and is T9. He parred six of his first nine, with his best stretch of the round coming at the turn. He birdied his ninth and 10th holes, the Par-5 18th and Par-4 1st. He made four more pars in a row after that, with his third birdie coming on the Par-5 6th. His only major hiccup came in between two pars on his final three holes of the day, with a double-bogey on his 17th hole of the round.
 
Filip Raza parred six of his first nine, and scored a birdie on the Par-5 13th. His second nine featured six more pars to wrap his first round. Daniel Montalvo had nine pars and a birdie and Jack Neill had seven pars and a sequence with a birdie and an eagle in back-to-back holes to close out his first nine.
 
The Dolphins shot 3-under on Par-5s, tied for the second-best score in the field and the team carded 52 pars, 10 birdies and an eagle.
 
Second round action starts up Monday morning with tee times beginning at 8:30 a.m.
