This Week In Jacksonville Athletics - Feb. 20-26

JACKSONVILLE, Fla- Crossover season between winter and spring sports is still in full swing this week at JU. The Dolphins are set to host 10 events across the next six days, here's who's hosting. 


Baseball

Feb. 21 vs Florida State, 6 PM
Feb. 24-26 vs Siena, 6 PM (Fri), 1 PM (DH) (Sat), 1 PM (Sun).
  • Hosts five games this week, starting with Florida State on Tuesday night, before welcoming Siena in for the weekend
  • JU took one of three from Kent State on opening weekend, rallying to win opening night, then scoring late to tie the game in the ninth and force extras on Saturday, before ultimately falling in 16-innings
  • Kris Armstrong and Justin Nadeau led the Dolphins with four hits each over the weekend, and freshman Evan Chrest struck out nine in his starting debut on Friday
Beach Volleyball

Feb. 24 vs. Georgia State (8 AM), Palm Beach Atlantic (12 PM), Charleston (4 PM)
Feb.26 vs. Tusculum (8 AM), Tampa (12 PM)
  • The Dolphins tip off their season this weekend with five duels at the Payne Sand Volleyball Courts at Dolphin Beach
  • JU finished 10-27 last year
  • The team added five new faces to the roster this season

Feb. 22 vs. Bellarmine, 5 PM - Neon Night, ESPNU
Feb. 24 vs Eastern Kentucky, 7 PM - Senior Night
  • The Dolphins are set to host last year's championship game rematch with Bellarmine on Wednesday
  • JU currently sits tied for 10th in the conference with FGCU. The top 10 qualify for this years ASUN men's basketball playoffs, and everything is to play for in this weeks finale.
  • Gyasi Powell is the fifth best three-point shooter in the conference at the beginning of this week - shooting 43.2% on the season from deep.
Women's Lacrosse

Feb. 20 vs. Stanford, 1 PM
  • Women's lacrosse continues their seven game home-stand with a matchup against the nationally ranked Stanford Cardinal. 
  • Last weeks ASUN player of the week Sarah Elms became the program's all-time leader in points in a five goal performance against Army
  • Maddie Sturgell tallied five assists against the Black Knights last week as well
