PONTE VEDRA BEACH, Fla. – Jacksonville University men's golf concluded the first day of The Hayt T13, with the second round suspended due to darkness with one group finishing its final few holes.
JU shaved 19 strokes off of its team score in the second round and was led by
Alexandre Vandermoten, who is T4 entering the final round.
After a solid first round, where he finished 1-under thanks to a trio of birdies and 13 pars, Vandermoten turned things up in his second 18. He had one birdie in his first nine holes, but closed especially strong, starting his last nine with four straight pars before rattling off three consecutive birdies and closing with two more pars to sit 4-under after 36 holes.
He was tied for seventh in Par-5 scoring, shooting 4-under on such holes. He was also 1-under on Par-4s for the day. His 26 total pars was tied for third-most in the field and he led the team with seven birdies.
Joseph Sullivan made 11 pars, a birdie and an eagle on the Par-5 8th hole in his first round. He improved by two strokes in his second round, carding a stretch that included two birdies and an eagle over the course five holes. His two eagles led the team and were second-most in the field on Sunday.
Jack Neill shook off a tough start to the day to shoot eight strokes better in his second round than his first and moved nine spots up the leaderboard. His last 18 holes of the day started with pars on six of the first seven and he ended his first nine with a birdie. From there he made four more pars in a row and then finished the round with three consecutive birdies.
Daniel Montalvo, participating as an individual, made a pair of birdies and eight pars in the first round. His second round featured an additional birdie and a stretch of five straight pars in the front nine, with five more in a row on the back nine.
James Dulin improved by seven strokes in his second round, making 10 pars and a pair of birdies, while
Josef Hacker had an 11-stroke improvement, making 11 pars and a birdie on his second 18.
JU was 5-under on Par-5s and made the second-most eagles, with three.
The final round gets underway on Monday morning with the Dolphin team tee times starting at 9:33 a.m.
