LEXINGTON, KY – Jacksonville University volleyball assistant coach Jordan Armstrong was selected as the 2023 American Volleyball Coaches Association Award Winner on Thursday.
Jacksonville welcomed Armstrong as an assistant coach in February 2020.
During his time with the Dolphins Armstrong mentored a 2022 ASUN Second Team All-ASUN, the programs first since 2017, Jacksonville's first ASUN Scholar-Athlete of the Year in volleyball, as well as two ASUN Winner For Life Recipients. In 2022, he played an integral role in Jacksonville Volleyball's 81- spot RPI improvement and the most program wins since 2017, including a Top-100 victory.
Off the court, Armstrong oversees the program's academic efforts and under his guidance JU volleyball has maintained a 3.5 GPA for the last three seasons.
"To receive this recognition amongst the other honorees is humbling. I feel as though this reflects just as much on me as it does for those that have been a part of my journey, that started in Burnt Hills, NY, where the reach of boys' volleyball is marginal," said Armstrong.
On the developmental professional side, he has been a part of the AVCA NY Spring 2023 Seminar presenter, Florida Region All-Stars Coach- 15 International, and ASUN AVCA Assistant coaches committee.
"For each of us honored, there are so many other coaches who share their passion, determination, and willingness to support student-athletes as they navigate life through this sport. And to all of those individuals, know that you are seen, and your impact goes farther than you can imagine. I am grateful for the student-athletes that I have been able to coach and that have also coached me along the way! To my family, coaches, close friends/crew, mentors, colleagues, and the Dons, you all continually inspire me to push beyond what I think I am capable of, which in turn allows me to do that for others," Armstrong continued.
The mission of the AVCA is to advance the sport of volleyball with AVCA coaches at the epicenter of leadership, advocacy and professional development. The AVCA provides education to volleyball coaches, recognition of elite players and coaches, promotion of volleyball competitions throughout the world, and networking opportunities for volleyball products and services providers.
