Back To Back! Women's Rowing Sweeps The MAAC Championships For The Second Straight Year

SARATOGA SPRINGS, NY – The Jacksonville women's rowing team won their second consecutive and seventh MAAC Championship in program history. Their sweep of the Regatta is also their second consecutive time doing so at the conference championship.

On a beautiful day for racing, the Dolphins first Varsity Eight set the tone for JU's success by starting the Regatta with a first-place victory. Their 7:12.346 time was three seconds faster than second place Marist and seven seconds ahead of third place Fairfield.

Shortly thereafter, Jacksonville's second Varsity Eight continued the momentum with a 7:18.845 time. The 'Phins won the second Varsity Eight Grand Finale by over 14 seconds and over two boat lengths to convincingly give them their second win of the afternoon.

In the final race that had NCAA qualifying implications, the First Varsity Four Grand Final, the Dolphins immediately jumped to an early lead and continued to separate from the rest of the boats. After crossing the finish line, the Varsity Four saw a 7:56.593 time that was 20 seconds faster than the next closest boat in Sacred Heart.

With events that placed points for MAAC Championship purposes over, there was one race left on the afternoon that the Dolphins had two boats in, the Second Varsity Four Final. With confidence and momentum surging, Jacksonville's Second and Third Varsity Four quickly jumped into the lead, and it became a two-boat race from boats from the same school. The Second and Third Varsity Four's put the exclamation point on a successful morning that was a complete sweep of the MAAC Championships.

Pettie Costellic, Hannah Gagnon, Ginger Hubbard., Caroline Wells and Hannah Williams all landed on the All-MAAC First-Team while  Anne Geurts was the lone Dolphins rower to nab second-team honors.

With the Conference Championship secured, the Dolphins have secured an automatic bid to the three-day NCAA Championships on May 26th through the 28th in Cherry Hill, New Jersey. The Dolphins will now await their field of opponents which will be announced at 6:30 pm ET on May 16th.
