Women's Rowing Completes Day Two At NCAA Championship

CHERRY HILL, N.J. - The Jacksonville women's rowing team continued to compete and finished day two at the NCAA Championships on Saturday.

While the weather was a bit cooler than Friday, the water was like glass due to the lack of wind, creating another great day for racing. Jacksonville's Varsity Four ended the day with a bang, engaging in a back-and-forth battle with Navy in the third Four's Semi-Final. JU pulled away in the last 50 meters and beat Navy by just under three seconds. The V4 also outperformed boats from Northeastern and George Washington, who were in a different semi-final race. Looking ahead to tomorrow, the Dolphins will be in the D final against George Washington, Northeastern, and Navy. JU had faster times today than two of their three upcoming opponents, with Gonzaga recording the fastest time thus far. The 'D' final is set to start at 8:24 AM.

The Dolphins' first Varsity Eight was placed in a semi-final against boats from Ohio State, Rutgers, Northeastern, and George Washington. Ultimately, they placed fifth in their semi-final with a time of 7:03.459, which was 21 seconds better than yesterday's effort. Glancing ahead to tomorrow, the Dolphins' 1V will race against boats from Navy, George Washington, and Gonzaga. The 1V final is slated for a 9:00 AM start.

The Second Varsity Eight went up against boats from Rutgers, Syracuse, Southern California, and Gonzaga in their semi-final. While the Dolphins finished fifth in their respective semi-final, they were just two seconds behind Navy, who were in a different semi-final. JU will take on boats from Northeastern, Gonzaga, and Navy tomorrow in the 'D' final. Their final is set to begin at 8:36 AM.

"I am looking forward to our final chance to cap off a really impressive year," said head coach Mike Lane. "Our kids will be prepared to give it their all! I could not be more proud of the hard work our women have put in. Especially excited to watch what our four will do tomorrow as we continue to make history."
