Steady Day for Men's Golf in Round Two at Golfweek Fall Challenge

9/11/2023 4:52:00 PM

PAWLEYS ISLAND, S.C. – Another steady day on the course for Alexandre Vandermoten and Daniel Montalvo sees both players inside the top-20 with one round to play at the Golfweek Fall Challenge.

Three total Dolphins shot second round 70s to lead the way on Monday at True Blue Golf Club, with the team currently T9 overall.

Vandermoten finished his second round without a blemish, and he rode a consistent round to his 2-under-par score. He started the day with a par, which continued as he scored par on his first 10 holes of the round. He continued the team's Par-3 success, sinking a birdie on the Par-3 11th. He followed that with another birdie on the Par-4 13th. He then concluded his round with five more pars, to finish the day with 16 total.

Montalvo only had one blemish on his day, a bogey on the Par-3 16th. Other than that, he started his day with three birdies on the front nine, complemented by six pars. He continued his steady performance after making the turn, rattling off six-straight pars before that one-off on hole 16. He then concluded his day with two more pars, and had 14 total in the round. After a career-best 36-hole total of 141 in the first two rounds of the ASUN Championship last April, Montalvo has picked up where he left off in the new season, setting a new career-low with a 139 so far through this event.

Flip Raza rode a bit more of a roller coaster, especially early, en route to matching Vandermoten and Montalvo's scores on the day. He started the round with consecutive birdies, but then gave the strokes back over the course of the next four holes. He was even through eight, when he birdied the final hole of the front nine. Three-straight pars began his back nine, and collected his fourth and final red number of the day on the Par-4 13th, before closing the round with five pars in a row.

Jack Neill shook off a tough front nine, to shoot 1-under on the back, making three pars and two birdies over his final five holes of the day. Jackson Klauk shot three strokes better on Monday than on Sunday, putting together a long, quality stretch in which he made eight pars and a birdie from holes eight-16.

JU is still tied for second in overall scoring on Par-3s, shooting 2-under on such holes through the first two days. Vandermoten and Montalvo are both 2-under on Par-3s to lead the team. Neill has been the Dolphins top scorer on Par-4s, shooting -3 for the first two days, while Raza leads the team with -3 scoring on Par-5s.

Final round action tees off at 7:35 a.m. tomorrow morning, with Klauk going off first, and Vandermoten is the final JU player to begin, set to tee off at 8:11 a.m.
