JACKSONVILLE, Fla. — The Jacksonville University men's golf team fell 6-1 in match play to 21st-ranked Florida at the Pablo Creek Golf Club. The defending national champions were a force after the Dolphins took the first of seven matches as the Gators would roll on to win the final six.
Tomas Hjalsted had the best round for the Dolphins, taking JU's win by defeating Parker Bell (UF) on his way to a three-under par finish in 17 holes. Hjalsted wrapped up his two stroke victory with a chip in on the 17th hole, closing out his day.
Josef Hacker finished second on the team with an even-par day, completing 15 holes of action as Matthew Kress (UF) finished ahead at four-under par.
Alexandre Vandermoten and
Jackson Klauk rounded out the top four golfers for JU with one-over-par finishes. Vandermoten played 16 holes of action while Klauk played 14 before falling in match play.
The Dolphins will host their second tournament of the spring season next Monday (Jan. 29) with three rounds at TPC Sawgrass. 15 teams are set to arrive in Jacksonville for the Sea Best Invitational.
