PONTE VEDRA, Fla. — After two rounds at the Sea Best Invitational, the Jacksonville University men's golf team sits in eighth, sticking in the middle of the pack of a tightly contested field.
Alexandre Vandermoten leads the team, sitting in a tie for 20th after a four-over-par day.
The Dolphins fell behind early in the first round but managed to battle their way back to eighth using three top-30 finishes. Vandermoten highlighted his day with a one-over-par second round, finishing with a 73 and 71 in the first and second rounds.
Following him is a pair of Dolphins in a tie for 30th, with
Daniel Montalvo and
Jack Neill holding their own amongst a tight field. Montalvo shot up the leaderboard early, falling back in the field before picking up four spots on the leaderboard in the second round. Montalvo made his mark on the seventh hole, earning a birdie in the first round before carding an eagle in the second.
Niell found himself in a tie for 30th after finishing the second round in 20th, shooting par on 28 holes in both rounds and having just one setback, a bogey on the sixth hole in the front nine of the second round.
Rounding out the scoring Dolphins on the first day was
Josef Hacker, who finished in a tie for 57th after shooting ten-over-par after two rounds.
Will Harris finished out the lineup for JU at 11-over-par.
The Dolphins are set for an 8:00 a.m. tee time at TPC Sawgrass - Dye's Valley for the third and final round. #21 Florida leads the field with a team finish of two-over-par.
