BURLINGTON, N.C. - The Jacksonville University men's golf team finished in ninth place out of 18 teams at the Phoenix Invitational hosted by Elon at the Alamance Country Club course.
Daniel Montalvo led the way for the Dolphins, shooting an even-par 71 in third round to finish the event at one-over-par. Montalvo had his best two rounds at the end, shooting one-under and even to move into a t-21st place finish.
Will Harris moved up in the final round, earning a tie for 28th after a one-under scorecard moved him up on the leaderboard on the second day of competition. Harris opened up the tournament with a three-over 74, finishing his next two rounds with scores of even-par and one-under to pull Jacksonville back up the leaderboard.
Third for Jacksonville, and t-43rd overall was
Brandon Lohr, who played steady golf all week, shooting 74, 72 and 73 in the three rounds. Lohr finished at six-over-par, anchoring the third spot in the scoring lineup.
Andrew Sevene rounded out the scoring lineup, finishing in 93rd at 16-over-par overall. After opening the tournament with two rounds of 79 and 77, Sevene battled in the third round, shooting a two-over 73.
Jacksonville will take on Georgia Southern in a match play event at Pablo Creek on Monday (Jan. 27th).
