GAINESVILLE, Ga. — At the Gators invitational at Mark Bostic Golf Course, the Jacksonville University men's golf team made a second-round run to move up three spots into a tie for 11th. The Dolphins improved from their first-round score by 20 strokes as a team, shooting a 274 total team score in the second round.
Alexandre Vandermoten leads the team, sitting in a tie for 11th after shooting two-under in the first round before adding a one-under scorecard in the second. Vandermoten bookended his back nine in the first round with a pair of birdies before adding another pair of birdies with no setbacks on the front nine in the second round.
Second for Jacksonville was
Tomas Hjalsted, who managed a blistering pace in the second round, shooting a 65 (-5) with seven birdies and an eagle; after a slow start, Hjalsted climbed the leaderboard by 34 spots to move into a tie for 47th.
Josef Hacker finished third for JU, sitting in a tie for 54th after a three-over-par in the second round. Hacker began to find his birdies in the front nine of the second round, carding three.
A pair of Dolphins finished in a tie for 63rd as
Daniel Montalvo and
Jack Neill both finished at seven-over after two rounds. Niell joined Hjalsted with an eagle in the second round, both finishing the par five on the seventh in three strokes.
JU will tee off on Saturday at 7:30 a.m. amongst a grouping of West Virginia and UCF. Florida leads the tournament at 21-under-par as a team. Ian Gilligan leads the individual leaderboard at nine-under-par.
