JACKSONVILLE, Fla. - The Jacksonville Beach Volleyball program competed and hosted day one of the Jacksonville Invitational with matches against North Florida, Coastal Carolina, and Florida State on Friday.
In the morning matchup, the Dolphins played with great effort but could not secure a victory against UNF. In the three's matchup,
Katie Martinez and
Meredith Mrukowski pushed their match to three sets, going back and forth against the Ospreys but fell short in the end, losing the third set 22-20.
The Dolphins continued to compete and battle throughout the day in stormy conditions in their afternoon matchup with Coastal Carolina. One's pair
Emily Kubicsko and
Jenna McNamara battled with the Chanticleers one's, forcing the match to three sets, but fell short in the third set, 15-11. Three's pair
Meredith Mrukowski and
Katie Martinez and four's pair
Claire Mrukowski and
Kristina Nika both went to three sets in their matchups as well but fell just short in the deciding set. In the six's pairing,
Hayden Garnett and
Miller Reames came out victorious in two sets, giving both their first collegiate victory.
Jacksonville would have their final matchup of the day against Florida State, who finished fourth in the country last year. While the Dolphins could not find a victory, they competed with some of the nation's best, giving the 'Phins beach team great experience and the opportunity to see what it takes to play against an elite-level opponent.
The Dolphin Duels will continue tomorrow, but Jacksonville will not play again until Sunday, where they face off against Palm Beach Atlantic at 8:00 AM, Chattanooga at Noon and FIU at 4:00 PM to conclude the weekend.
