Ponte Vedra Beach, Fla. — After the first round of action at the John Hayt Invitational at Sawgrass Country Club, the Jacksonville University men's golf team sits seventh of 14 teams, competing amongst a loaded field.
Alexandre Vandermoten highlights the day sitting tied for the lead with a pair of golfers after 18 holes.
Vandermoten shined at the top of the leaderboard and lineup in JU's first round, shooting a three-under-par 69. The senior picked up three strokes on the back nine and made six birdies. Vandermoten is tied with Alabama's Canon Claycomb and Neal Shipley of Ohio State.
Jack Neill, who finished the day in second for the Dolphins, sits in 15th place after a one-over par scorecard. Neill was steady for the majority of the round, with just two bogeys and one birdie to his name. It was a clean back nine for the England native, as he scored 11 straight pars, nine of those coming on the back nine.
Daniel Montalvo sits in third for JU, shooting a six-over-par round, earning a spot in a tie for 54th.
Josef Hacker rounds out the scoring lineup in a tie for 68th, sitting at eight-over-par alongside
Jackson Klauk, who is playing as an individual.
Alabama leads the tournament after the first round, shooting six-under par. Four teams are ranked in the top 25 in the event, with Jacksonville sitting behind top-ranked North Carolina and 21st-ranked Alabama, ahead of 25th-ranked tournament host North Florida and 21st-ranked Duke.
JU will tee off at 8:00 a.m. at Sawgrass Country Club paired with fellow Sunshine State programs North Florida and UCF.
